St. Baldrick’s Foundation Head-Shaving Events
G SALON has been involved with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation since 2011 by hosting an annual head-shaving event. St. Baldrick’s Foundation raises money for pediatric cancer research in a variety of ways, including these head-shaving events in which volunteers raise money and shave their heads in solidarity with children who typically lose their hair during treatment. G SALON has recruited family, friends and clients who willingly shave their heads, as well as teaming up with the North Haven community, collecting raffle items from area businesses and garnering great participation from the North Haven Police Department’s team of shavees. To date, G SALON’s St. Baldrick’s events have raised over $41,000.00 for the foundation.
United Way’s Adopt-A-Family Program
G SALON’s Giving Tree has been an annual charity event within the salon since 2007. Each year, G SALON staff and clients donate items off of a family’s wish list provided by the Meriden/Wallingford United Way. These gifts are delivered to our family in need in time for them to have a special and memorable holiday. G SALON has always had an overwhelming response from our generous and warm-hearted salon family. In May 2013, G SALON was the recipient of the United Way’s “Outstanding Volunteer Commitment” Award for its involvement in the Adopt-A-Family Program.
Fairy Tale Ball
The Children’s Museum of Southeastern Connecticut, a non-profit organization, held The Fairy Tale Ball, an annual event to raise money for the museum. From 2007-2010, G SALON volunteered to run the “Transformation Station,” in which attendees of the ball were invited to get in touch with their “inner child” and don neon sunglasses, glitter hairspray, temporary tattoos, tiaras and more.
Relay for Life
G SALON’s donation to the Quinnipiac Relay for Life made them a track sponsor for the event from 2007-2010. The Relay for Life raises money for the American Cancer Society through a 24-hour walk.
Locks of Love
G SALON stylists lent their helping hands to North Haven’s Ridge Road School’s Locks of Love event in which elementary school student volunteers donated their ponytails. Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada suffering from long-term medical hair loss from various diagnoses.
Will Santa Find Me Cut-a-Thon
In 2006, G SALON held a Cut-A-Thon to raise money for “Will Santa Find Me?”, a non-profit organization that helps children of domestic violence keep the hope and magic of Christmas alive, even if they are in a shelter. G SALON staff, with other volunteer hairstylists, accepted donations of $25 in exchange for a haircut, as well as collected donations of toys and gifts for area families in need.
